Since bursting on the scene in 2013, Thomas Rhett has enjoyed an unstoppable rise that has crowned him one of the unquestioned kings of country.
But while he has registered 17 Billboard country chart-toppers, collected multiple CMA awards, Grammy nominations and become one of the most followed celebrities on Instagram, one high had so far eluded him: A headlining set at Coachella.
Friday that changed for Rhett as he performed atop one of the country world’s biggest thrones with a masterful set at Stagecoach, Coachella’s sister event.
“This is a freaking bucket list moment for me,” Rhett said before introducing himself to the crowd (as if he needed any introduction). “It feels good to be back in the desert.”
The show opened with a rush of somewhat forbidding bright red lights more befitting of an EDM show or perhaps The Weeknd’s recent set at Coachella. But as Rhett launched into those first few lines of “Craving You,” the vibe was an all-country party.
