Spring football practice is underway, which means we get to see tons of transfer portal players at their new destinations. The transfer portal is also expected to pickup as spring practice continues and depth charts start to take shape. Let’s take a look at some of the recent storylines around spring practice through the lens of the transfer portal.
The LSU quarterback battle will be one of the most intriguing storylines this offseason with the addition of Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels.
Daniels, a former five-star from California in the 2019 class, spent three seasons in Tempe before transferring. Daniels played admirably as a true freshman in 2019 (17 TDs, 2 INTs) but has had his struggles in the last two seasons. Daniels brings an exciting mix of arm talent and athleticism to Baton Rouge and will be tough to keep off the field as he fits new offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock’s offense very well.
Sixth-year senior Myles Brennan entered the portal and then decided to stay at LSU when new coach Brian Kelly arrived. He has the steady arm, field vision, and experience to challenge the quarterback room. Second-year signal caller Garrett Nussmeier shouldn’t be slept on in this battle. He flashed at times as a freshman and isn’t afraid to the throw the ball into tight windows.
