Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has a very funny response about why he hasn’t seen The Batman yet. One of DC Comics’ superheroes to have been reimagined the most in live-action is the Dark Knight himself, and 2022 became the year for yet another new take on the hero. Following Ben Affleck’s Batman in the DCEU, Warner Bros. rebooted the character’s franchise outside the cinematic universe as a standalone property. With director Matt Reeves behind it, The Batman became the latest iteration of Gotham City’s terror-striking vigilante, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne.
While not doing a traditional origin story of his path to becoming a hero, The Batman instead took a different approach by doing a “Year 2” story — as a nod to Batman: Year One — by showing Bruce as a not-entirely-new crime fighter. It served as a way of not having to show the death of the Waynes and Bruce training to become Batman. Despite that, Pattinson’s incarnation is still a work in progress, with The Batman franchise aiming to get him closer to becoming the DC legend that fans know and love from the comics. With the addition of Pattinson’s take on Batman, he joins a long list of actors to have brought the icon to life outside the books.
