Mardy Fish, the Vero Beach native and former top-ranked American tennis player, is confident as he goes about defending his 2020 title next week at the annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe.
The 32nd annual celebrity competition is set for July 9-11 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, alongside the famous lake. A total of $600,000 in prize money is at stake and the tournament has raised over $5.5 million for charity.
Fish, playing in the event for the seventh time, is the second choice behind Tony Romo to win the tournament. According to the Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill, Romo is 3-2 to win the title with Fish at 2-1. Other contenders include: for Major League Baseball pitchers Mark Mulder (4-1) and John Smoltz (8-1). The greatest-ever woman player, Annika Sorenstam (8-1), is also gunning for the title.
Fish, who also serves as captain of the U.S Davis Cup Team, has always performed well at Edgewood Tahoe, finishing top five in each of the past six years. Last year, he scored a record 37 modified Stableford points in the second round and cruised to victory.
