Alabama sends two wide receivers to the NFL Draft in two weeks, as John Metchie and Jameson Williams will hear each of their names called. Both, however, suffered injuries at the end of their respective collegiate careers. Metchie tore his ACL in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia, while Williams did the same in the national championship against the Bulldogs.
“He’s doing great,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said of Williams on The Rich Eisen Show. “I mean, his surgery was very successful. Sometimes when you have ACLs, there’s other complications that go with the knee injury that can sort of be a little bit of an inhibitor when it comes to rehab. He and Metchie both had just clean ACLs that are very fixable. And both of ’em have done really, really in rehab. And I think both of ’em will be ready to roll for the season.”
Williams finished his lone season with the Crimson Tide with 79 catches for 1,572 yards (19.9 average) and 15 touchdowns. In his two years at Ohio State, while not starting, he made 15 catches for 266 yards (17.7 average) and three touchdowns.
As a member of the Class of 2019, Williams was a four-star prospect, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He was the No. 1 overall prospect in Missouri out of Saint Louis Cardinal Ritter College Prep, the No. 13 wide receiver prospect in the class and the No. 82 overall prospect in the class.
