One of Connecticut’s premier sporting events returned on Wednesday, and with fans.
The Travelers Championship kicked off at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
While the official golf tournament starts on Thursday, celebrities prepared to tee off at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday for a pro-am.
Recording artist Javier Colon sang the National Anthem during the opening ceremony.
It’s called the celebrity pro-am, but after missing it for a year, it was more like a celebrity celebration.
Being back really is the theme of the entire tournament.
The players played here last year, but it didn’t have the feel of the Travelers Championship.
Now, even with reduced crowds, it feels like Connecticut’s big event.
“I’d love to just find one pro, follow him around hole-to- hole and watch him tee off, and just experience the whole experience,” Southbury resident Remy Bhatia said.
Now that sounds like fun and keep in mind, you don’t even have to be from Connecticut or the region to love a day at the Travelers.
