Former President Trump on Friday disputed an excerpt in a forthcoming book about the tail end of his presidency, saying then-Attorney General William Barr never told him that he thought he would lose the election in November.
“Despite what is being reported in one of the many fake books that are coming onto the market, Bill Barr never once told me he thought I was going to lose the election. In fact, it was quite the opposite, he told me that I should win,” Trump said in a statement.
Excerpts from “I Alone Can Fix It,” authored by Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, show Barr and Trump had a meeting in spring 2020 during which Barr warned Trump he would lose the election if he didn’t change his ways.
“I feel you are going to lose the election,” Barr told Trump during the meeting, according to an excerpt obtained by MSNBC. “I feel you are actually losing touch with your own base.”
